Rory Kinnear - Biography

Rory Kinnear is an English actor who has worked with the Royal Shakespeare Company and the Royal National Theatre. He gained widespread recognition for his role as MI6 Chief of Staff, Bill Tanner, in Bond films such as "Quantum of Solace" and "Skyfall". He will reprise this role in the upcoming film "Spectre". Kinnear received the Laurence Olivier Award for his performance in the comedy play "The Man of Mode, or Sir Fopling Flutter" and the British Independent Film Award for his work in the drama "Broken". He also won another Laurence Olivier Award for his portrayal of Iago in the National Theatre's production of "Othello".

Early Life and Education

Rory Kinnear was born on February 17, 1978, in London, England. His mother was the late television actress Carmel Cryan and his father was the renowned British comedic actor Roy Kinnear. Rory has two sisters, Kristy and Karina. His grandfather, Roy Muir Kinnear, was a well-known rugby player. His godfather, Michael Williams, was an actor and the husband of Judi Dench, who starred in several Bond films.

Kinnear attended Tower House School and St. Peter's School in London. He later studied acting at Balliol College, Oxford, and the London Academy of Music and Dramatic Art (LAMDA).

Career

Kinnear's breakthrough role came when he played Laertes in Trevor Nunn's production of "Hamlet". He gained further recognition for his portrayal of Sir Fopling Flutter in "The Man of Mode, or Sir Fopling Flutter", which earned him the Laurence Olivier Award and the Ian Charleson Award. He also received critical acclaim for his performances in "The Revenger's Tragedy" by Thomas Middleton, "Philistines" by Maxim Gorky, and the theatrical adaptation of Nikita Mikhalkov's film "Burnt by the Sun", all of which were performed at the Royal National Theatre.
